Cell surface proteins: an overlooked source of antigens
Frans Bianchi, Radboud university medical center, department Tumor Immunology
Diseased cells present pieces of proteins (epitopes) on their surface, allowing their recognition and elimination by the immune system. Many epitopes are generated by unknown mechanisms from membrane-proteins. Using chemical fluorescent reporters, Bianchi will investigate how these are presented.
Fifteen researchers from the Radboud University and Radboud university medical center have been awarded a Veni grant by NWO, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. These grants of up to €250,000 provide highly promising young scientists with the opportunity to further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years
